O cerrado é o mais velho bioma da terra , que começou a aproximadamente 70 milhões, e se concretizou a 40 milhões de anos, no paleoceno, após a ultima grande extinção onde 99% da vida na terra foram perdidas. Também é conhecido como
o berço das águas, no Brasil, onde possui cerca de 18% da água potável na terra .
Alguns pesquisadores, entre eles o professor da PUC Goiás Altair Sales Barbosa, é taxativo em dizer que o cerrado já está extinto. Segundo ele um bioma é medido por comunidades e populações de plantas, e já não se encontram mais essas
comunidades no cerrado. A introdução de plantas exóticas e o papel do Brasil em se tornar um exportador de matéria prima como soja, cana de açúcar e carne foram fatais para esse quadro. Um solo oligotrófico chegou ao limite da exploração pela monoculturas em um nível continental.
A resiliência é a capacidade do meio ambiente em se regenerar,voltar ao seu estado primordial. A morte do cerrado não representa a morte do planeta, mas um genocídio das gerações futuras. A morte do cerrado representa a morte de aquíferos
importantes para a manutenção da vida na America do sul, e sem ele esse continente irá caminhar para a desertificação. A pressão sobre a amazônia será
insustentável, e inevitavelmente o clima do planeta será alterado.

Mesmo que demore milhões de anos o planeta irá se recuperar, o ser humano será esmagado antes disso. A sede e a falta de alimentos será o nosso presente para os nossos filhos. A surpresa será perceber
que não é possível existir em um planeta com uma unica especie apenas.

Even if it takes millions of years the planet will recover, the human being will be crushed before that. The thirst and lack of food will be our gift to our children. The surprise will be realize that it is not possible to exist on a planet with a single species only.
